Manual OpenVPN setup for AsusTor NAS

Introduction

In order to setup SaferVPN on AsusTor NAS version ADM 2.6.0.R4R1, follow our step by step guide as given below:

AsusTor NAS OpenVPN Setup

  1. Go to the desktop of your system and create a new .txt file as txt.
  2. Open SaferVPN.txt file that you have just created and enter your SaferVPN Username and Password in two lines.

  3. Access your AsusTor NAS through the Internet browser by entering the local IP address of your NAS device into the address bar of your browser
    Note: You can see the IP address of your AsusTOR device at the IPv4 address column.
  4. Login to your AsusTor web interface by using Admin account

  5. Then open File Explorer

  6. Now create a new folder in any of the preferred directory (for ex: - Home Directory)

  7. Name the new folder with a name that suits you best ( for ex: - SaferVPN).

  8. Drag-drop the SaferVPN.txt file in the SaferVPN folder.

  9. You can now see the uploaded file in the Task Monitor window.

  10. Now you need to download the SaferVPN OpenVPN configuration file of the server you wish to connect, click here to download.
  11. Save the server file that you have selected on your computer (for ex: - on Desktop)
  12. Now open the Config. file that you have just downloaded and add these lines as shown below:

  13. Access AsusTor main window and go to Settings, then VPN.

  14. Go to the Add option, select OpenVPN and click on Next.

  15. Now select the option Import Configuration Files from the OpenVPN Provider, and click on Next

  16. Fill the fields as shown in the image below:
    Name: Any name that fits your choice for ex: - SaferVPN / SaferVPN US etc.
    Import Files: Browse to uploads the OpenVPN configuration file you have edited in the step #12.

  17. You will see the name of the file you have uploaded in one of the lines.This means the file has been successfully uploaded and you can click Finish
  18. You will now see the newly added VPN, select it and click on Connect to establish the connection
