How to Setup SaferVPN on Arch Linux (PPTP)

Introduction

Arch Linux is a Linux distribution for computers based on i686 and x86-64 architectures. It is based on open-source software and supports Linux community involvement.

Please make sure you have signed up before proceeding with the tutorial.

Make sure you have the following things with you before you proceed:

  • A working Internet Connection
  • Arch Linux
  • A SaferVPN app installed on your device

Once you are ready with all these things then, follow our steps given below:

 

A. Configure a new VPN connection on Arch Linux

  1. Go to the Network Manager and click on Network Settings.

  2. Click on the + sign to add a new profile.

  3. Select VPN from the Add Network Connection menu.

  4. Now select PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol).

  5. Fill in the fields as described below:

    Name: SaferVPN PPTP or anything that fits your choice
    Gateway: Enter SaferVPN server address, to get one click here
    Username: SaferVPN Username
    Password: SaferVPN Password

  6. Click on Advanced, and fill in the fields as described:

    Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE): Checked
    All default boxes: Checked (if they are unchecked in the first place)
    Allow BSD data compression: Checked
    Allow Deflate data compression: Checked
    Use TCP header compression: Checked
    Send PPP Echo Packet: Unchecked

    Verify all the settings and select OK.

B.  Connect to the SaferVPN server

  1. You will now see the newly configured VPN connection in the Network Settings.
  2. Click on it and use the ON/OFF button to connect and disconnect.

  3. You are now successfully connected to SaferVPN.
